Ireland in a small open powerboat demands skilful seamanship
and a steady nerve, and a trusty boat. July this year saw
the course being attempted by 18 teams of RIBs ranging from
5.5 m to 10 m in length. Crews of between 2 and 4 started
the event at Kilmore Quay, County Wexford, on July 28. From
here they stopped at ports of call around Ireland including
Baltimore, Newport, and Dun Laoghaire, finishing at Kilmore
Quay on August 3.
Participating crews came from all over Ireland and the UK,
plus a team from the USA.
Ribeye/Yamaha dealer Albert Clarke Marine sponsored the Lough
Erne team by providing a Ribeye 7.50 Sports for the event.
The team, made up of Enniskillen lifeboat-men, were one of
only 9 teams that finished and thoroughly deserve our congratulations
for completing the 800-mile course in testing conditions.
The team praised the Ribeye, which battled magnificently against
the North Atlantic seas and was equipped to extremely high
standards with safety being paramount.
The event raised money for the RNLI and Marie Curie Cancer
Foundation. It is estimated that the target of £10,000
has been well exceeded.
Once again, our congratulations to these very brave men.
