The Dart Harbour and Navigation Authority's latest patrol
boat was put through her paces at a crime prevention exercise
carried out on the River Dart.
The brand new RIB joined forces with other agencies, including
the police and customs and excise, to take part in Operation
Jetsom at the weekend.
Built by former Dartmouth firm Ribeye, she brings the number
of vessels in the Dart Harbour and Navigation Authority's
patrol boat fleet to three.
Harbour Master Captain Simon Dowden said: "It is the
second RIB we have purchased from Ribeye because we were very
pleased with the success of the first."
"It will increase our capabilities for patrolling and
servicing the river so we can give our customers a better
service and it will improve our response to such things as
oil pollution and other incidents."
"It can also be used to enforce speed restrictions on
the river."
The new craft, which can reach speeds of 25 knots, will be
available for use by the volunteer watch so they do not have
to rely on the older launches.
It is equipped with life saving, firefighting and first aid
equipment, as well as a radio.
John Wood, sales manager for Ribeye, said: "Ribeye is
delighted to hand over the Dart Harbour and Navigation Authority's
second patrol boat".
