Senior Design Engineer

Full time, Permanent
Based in Dartmouth, Devon

Contact: careers@ribeye.co.uk
Tel: 01803 832060

Ribeye has experienced huge success and growth over the last few years and is now at a very exciting stage within the business. We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Senior Design Engineer to join our award-winning company.

This exciting role will see you work as part of our growing design team, developing both luxury leisure RIBs and semi-custom superyacht tender projects. The role is largely project-based and the candidate will be expected to produce 3D models and production drawings, before liaising with the fit-out team on rigging the manufactured parts. This is a fantastic opportunity where you will be able to see your design work from initial concept to finished product, often under tight timescales.

The candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including the following:

  • Lead individual semi-custom Superyacht Tender projects, managing all aspects of the design and delivery of custom specification from concept to completion.
  • Produce accurate 3D models and production drawings of new parts styled by the design team.
  • Deliver design and engineering solutions such as complex hinge mechanisms and moving components.
  • Create BOMs for new parts/assemblies.
  • Keep master GA’s and production drawings up to date with design changes.
  • Project managing multiple external contractors and suppliers, ensuring budgets and schedules are respected.
  • Work with the in-house fit-out team to ensure seamless implementation of custom parts. A hands-on approach is often necessary for this role.
  • Deal directly with high profile clients and shipyards ensuring project expectations are managed and met.

The candidate will require the following skills:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a marine design engineering role, ideally within the small craft or superyacht industry.
  • Experience of yacht tender requirements and low volume or semi-custom projects is highly beneficial.
  • Highly proficient in 2D and 3D CAD, specifically Rhinoceros 3D. Knowledge of Autodesk Fusion 360 and Solidworks is also highly desirable.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook as well as Salesforce.
  • A detailed understanding of materials and low volume production techniques.
  • An exceptional eye for detail.
  • A confident communicator; both with clients and colleagues throughout the business structure.
  • Proficiency in FEA and structural calculations is desirable but not essential for the role

We are offering a permanent role and the successful candidate will have completed a design-based qualification (i.e. degree or equivalent). You will be able to apply strong core design and communications skills, liaising directly with the design team and suppliers. All applicants will need to be UK based and will be expected to operate from our HQ in Dartmouth, Devon.
